Quark Expeditions Review

by Neome Nguyen
(Canada)

My friends and I embarked on an amazing journey to the Antarctic Peninsula and the company that we ended up traveling with was called Quark Expeditions and they were fantastic. Very low key expedition leaders, fun and easy to get along with. We went for 10 days from Dec. 31, 2009 to Jan. 10th, 2010.

The landscape and wildlife was just incredible. To be honest, I felt guilty by the end of the trip for visiting, because I knew that I was causing ecological damage to this pristine world. We ended up camping in the Antarctic, which was also an out of this world experience. I think I got sick from it though... but well worth it.

We had originally booked our tour with Travel Dynamics International, however that turned out to be disastrous as the ship that we originally booked (the Clelia II) got grounded, apparently, the 2nd time within 2009! The company was just really bad at managing this situation and we almost ended up not getting to go on this trip. They were not straight forward in answering any of our questions and mislead us several times. Definitely not a company I would travel with again.

However, going to the Antarctic was an incredible journey. I can't believe how close I got to the penguins and seals. The variety of fowls was also much larger than I expected. The most breathtaking scenery though were the icebergs. Just phenomenal! :)

Overall a great trip... just don't travel with Travel Dynamics!

Like nowhere else!!! I also traveled with Quark Expeditions in november 2008. It was fun, extremely laid back, the crew were fantastic, and i felt in good hands.

In addition to everything a trip to Antarctica can deliver, I remember a super warm day atop a mountain of snow, with clouds in the sky, whitecaps, seals on ice, and the sun glistening over the landscape.

One other memorable experience,(I did not do), was a polar plunge. One passenger jumped three times! exciting...I would go back in a heartbeat...and did I mention, Quark was great!!!

Oh, and for those of you who do not want to cross the Drake Passage, you can fly to your destination now, and board your ship, avoiding all those huge swells.
