The highlight of the Great Barrier Reef trip was the sail and snorkelling, obviously the sunshine and meeting new people. I just wish I had more time to do more diving as I love it so much.
I was in Port Douglas for a week in October 2007. We just went to the wonderful reef for 1 day on a huge two level catamaran. I guess there were 45 people on board. Everything was top notch.
The sea was calm and the snorkeling was fab. I saw heaps of fish, often quite decently sized. I'm no marine biologist, but I think the main fish was the parrot fish, anyway they are those big striped things that chew loudly away at the reef.
My brother, who was getting married, arranged it. Not sure I should write this here, but it was wedding party, so we were out every night drinking. And the night before the reef was a particularly nasty poker and pub combo. Anyway, my cousin Byron who is a big boy was in real bad shape, and the snorkelling was just too much for his system so he threw up all through his snorkel and all the fish swarmed in and cleaned it up, but those around Byron went the other way. So, don't drink and dive!
The wedding party rented a fab complex in Port Douglas, so sorry I can't recall its name, but it was right on the sea shore (but we couldn't swim in it due to jellyfish) and had its own pool and king sized bbq, which we put to good use.

There are thieves !!! avoid them by: Anonymous
We could not go to our trip to the Whitsundays because of the floods. When we called the Wicked travel agency to cancel our trip, they told us it was impossible. They did not want to refund our trip or rebook it. They really didn't give a s**** about us, they were very very rude when we went to their office to ask for a refund/rebooking. All they want is your money, no matter what. AVOID THEM !!!
